Make Music with ALWM at NABBA18

Donation protected
Based in Central Ontario,  A Little Wind Music started off in a conversation between myself and several of my brass playing friends wishing to play chamber style music and re-introduce the beauty of the light classical genre to our audiences through "edu-tainment".  Since then the ensemble has had flexible instrumentation to meet its performance requirements, so much so that in April 2016, we took on the British-Style Brass Band concept (tenor horns - not french horns, cornets - not trumpets, etc), coined ourselves "Brit-10-ish" to partake in the North American Brass Band Association 10-pc Ensemble Category - the first from Canada to do so! We enjoyed it so much, and gained wonderful experience and knowledge, that we returned in March 2017 where we were recognized for our efforts with a 3rd place!

What made it special was our commissioning a Canadian composer, Len Ballantine , with a composition based on a Canadian subject, the paintings by members of our Group of Seven, the finished work titled "Agawa Impressions" to celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday.

Fueled by this experience, the learning, and the honing of our skills through this competition platform (not found in Canada at this level), we're inviting more of our friends to join us by expanding into a full-size Brass Band (25 musicians) so that we may better contribute to this traditional form of amateur music-making by attending the 2018 NABBA Championships in Fort Wayne Indiana as "The Upper Canada Brass".

The full band will be required to perform a work as dictated by the competition as well a work/works of our own choice. Continuing with our decision from last year to perform Canadian works, we will again highlight our Canadian composers. (Unfortunately Competition rules prevents me from "advertising" the work(s) or composer(s).)  And "Brit-10-ish will also perform, again with a work specially written by yet another Canadian composer. There are even a few of the musicians who will accept the additional challenge of performing in the solo competitions as well.

The musicians are doing a lot with practising, extra rehearsals, working on the logistics of travel and accommodations, among other aspects. However your donations will help us be one of the few bands /10-pc ensemble representing CANADA at NABBA 2018 in the USA.

Your donations will help pay for the registration/ competition fees ($1900USD - approx $2500CDN - could fluctuate pending the exchange rate), the rental costs of rehearsal space (approx $2100CDN), and the acquisition of sheet music for the full band (approx $400CDN) which we will incur even before we leave for the USA.

French composer Erik Satie once said "The musician is perhaps the most modest of animals, but he is also the proudest." What ever you decide to donate, we will be very grateful for your assistance in getting to NABBA, and we will be so proud to represent Canada,  you - our supporters, and our musical community!

Whether you are able to donate or not, we do ask if you would SHARE this campaign on your Facebook/ Twitter/ Instagram or any other Social Media you might use. With great thanks.
