Help A Cambodian Family

Donation protected

I am an Australian nurse and have been living in Cambodia for the past two years.  During that time I have been involved in helping a small number of the world's poorest people to improve their lives and opportunities.  I have built two toilets for disabled rural villagers, assist two disabled landmine victims to keep their children in school, sponsor a number of children to attend English school, and various other similar small projects.

I am about to return home to Australia where I am due back at work after two years of leave.  My final few projects are coming to fruition, including to bring a 25yo dying woman to the USA for life saving treatment which is unavailable in Cambodia.  This was achieved through sheer good fortune, meeting the right people at the right time during lunch with the wife of a specialist based in the USA.

Today I enrolled two young boys from an impoverished family at an English school in Siem Reap.  They would never normally be able to consider attending a school such as this.  Their parents both grew up poor and their father taught himself to speak and write English.  He has helped me over the past two years in a number of different situations, as an untrained translator, remaining quiet about his own challenging circumstances and concerns for his children in an economy where many are never very far from threat of starvation.

As a tuk tuk driver, he often takes tourists out of town to the temples early in the morning, and often for the entire day.  This makes transporting the children to school complicated as their only vehicle is required for the family's only income.  To solve this I hope to buy the family a motorbike so that the boys can go to school with their mother.

To do this I need to raise at least US$1,000 plus fees of around 10%.  Converted to Australian currency this comes to approximately AU$1600.
