Orphanage Volunteer Trip- Haiti 04/03/14

In the aftermath of the horrendous earthquake that ravaged Haiti in January of 2010, a missionary (Chris) was serving alongside a doctor and friends from another mission organization. There he met a little boy; the 1,013th unnamed, unaccompanied patient to be delivered to a local clinic. His story, what could be pieced together of it, was terrible and sadly typical. Crushed, suffering, dying, abandoned. The last moments of his short life were spent in Chris' arms, prayed for, sung to, loved, and grieved. This is how 1013 Missions began.

We are all guilty of putting on blinders. Sometimes we don't realize we put them on, and sometimes we put them on intentionally. We are so focused on ourselves, our relationships, work, school, hobbies, our daily frustrations, and the frustration of crimes going on around us that we are unable to see anything or anyone else around us. However, when you're really honest with yourself, we realize that maybe there are other things going on in the world that are incomparable to what we have to go through. One of these situations that has put a burden on my heart are the orphaned Haitian children that have all been left without parental support/guidance. Most are left without a hope for a brighter tomorrow, but some are lucky enough to find God's grace and find peace in His promises of unconditional love.

Some of you may know that I have worked with children for a combined total of about 4 and a half years. There's something about their innocence and optimistic outlooks that gives us all a little bit of hope. It's truly saddening to know that their are hundreds of children in Haiti lacking attention. These young people are simply looking for just a sliver of attention and love. This April, throughout my time at the 1013 Missions Orphanage I hope to devote my time and bring my charisma to these beautiful children. & I hope that you find it in your hearts to give generously. Will you take off your blinders?

*Side-note: All money collected during my fundraising will go towards airfare, accommodations, meals, transportation within Haiti, and translators. Whatever exceeds the necessary amount will be donated to the 1013 Missions Orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
