Help this mudslide disaster

Brazil has been hit by extremely heavy rains, which is not uncommon for this time of year, however in the last month this has increased to a torrential amount, far surpassing what even the local infrastructure is prepared for.

Last week, record rains caused landslides on the east coast of Brazil, including in the small town of Alegre, in the state of Espírito Santo. Here, we are blessed to say that the death toll was minimal, but the damage to the city and its homes was nothing short of catastrophic. It is also here, however, that the Hubner family, my aunt, uncle and cousins, had their home and business affected by the direct impact of landslides, as well as flooding from the rising water level of the river where their home once stood. This very home and business were destroyed by the disaster, leaving nothing but uninhabitable rubble.

This Gofundme is intended to raise funds to help this family rebuild what was once their home and business source, through which they earned their only source of income after my uncle suffered a debilitating stroke. My aunt, the warrior that she is, was left as the sole breadwinner when she then decided to open and run the bar that has earned them the family income since then, which now no longer exists.

Please help us raise $50,000 to help this family rebuild what we hope one day they can call home and business, and support their family once again.

O Brasil foi atingido por chuvas extremamente fortes, o que não é incomum para esta época do ano, no entanto, no último mês, isso aumentou para uma quantidade torrencial, superando de longe o que até mesmo a infraestrutura local está preparada.

Na semana passada, chuvas recordes causaram deslizamentos de terra na costa leste do Brasil, inclusive na pequena cidade de Alegre, no estado do Espírito Santo. Aqui, somos abençoados em dizer que o número de mortos foi mínimo, mas os danos à cidade e suas residências foram nada menos que catastróficos. É também aqui, no entanto, que a família Hubner, minha tia, tio e primos, tiveram sua casa e negócios afetados pelo impacto direto dos deslizamentos de terra, bem como pelas inundações pelo aumento do nível das águas do rio onde sua casa ficava. Esta mesma casa e empresa foram destruídas pelo desastre, deixando nada além de escombros inabitáveis.

Este ‘Gofundme’ destina-se a angariar fundos para ajudar esta família a reconstruir o que foi outrora a sua casa e fonte negócio, através da qual ganhavam a sua única fonte de rendimento após o meu tio ter sofrido um AVC debilitante há alguns anos. Minha tia, guerreira que é, foi deixada como única ganhadora do pão, quando então decidiu abrir e administrar o bar que lhes rendeu a renda familiar desde então, e que agora não existe mais.
