Help me finish my senior year.

Hello Everyone!

So like the title says I am trying to raise sufficient money to cover my Fall 2013 tuition at ASU.

I came to Arizona at the age of two years old, 18 years ago, and undocumented with my parents and younger brother. Ever since then Arizona has been our home. Unfortunately due to my undocumented entry into the United States I face many obstacles not only when it comes to trying to obtain a college education but in every day life. I grew up surrounded by a constant fear of being sent back to Mexico at any day.

My parents were not able to obtain an education in Mexico, and it was for that reason that they decided to leave everything they knew and migrate to the United States. They wanted my younger brother and myself to have a chance at an education, they didn't want us to end up like them. Simply attending and graduating from High School was a great accomplishment in my parents eyes because they never had the opportunity to do so. Despite graduating from high school was a huge accomplishment in the eyes of my family they wanted me to continue on with my education.

Continuing on with my education after high school seemed like an impossible task due to the anti-immigrant policies in Arizona. I graduated with honors from Mesa High School not knowing if I would continue my education. I didn't have the sufficient funds to cover the expenses of attending an out of state university despite the scholarships they offered, and I wasn't able to accept any financial help from the 3 universities in Arizona. Everything I had worked for all those years seemed to have been for nothing.

A few weeks after my high school graduation I was able to meet with some individuals and was offered a private donor funded "scholarship" to cover my minimum tuition at Arizona State University. That "scholarship" was a blessing because it covered the $13,000 a semester cost of tuition at Arizona State University that I was responsible for due to being considered an "out of state" student. This "scholarship" helped me complete my first two years at Arizona State University.

Sadly a couple weeks before the Fall semester started at Arizona State I was notified that the "scholarship"would no longer be able to fund my tuition expenses. That being said I am looking for any means to cover my academic expenses for the next two years here at Arizona State University, ($13,000/semester).

Withdrawing from ASU for this Fall semester is not an option for me since I will be responsible for the cost of attending the semester. Also withdrawing from ASU at the moment and taking a year or more off of my education will cause me not only to get behind academically but to lose my position as an Honors Student at ASU.

Falling behind academically is not the best option for me at the moment because at the moment I am on track to graduate from ASU in 4 years (May 2015) with both my Biochemistry and Transborder Community Development and Health majors. After finishing my undergraduate education I plan on continuing on to medical school to become a Pediatric Neurologist. I am already planning and beginning the steps necessary to begin applying to medical schools and withdrawing from school would not allow me that opportunity to continue with my education and plans of becoming a Pediatric Neurologist.

I want to be able to give back to the community that has seen me grow up and has been a support for me through obtaining my education. I don't want to be just another number in the statistics of Hispanic/Latino college dropouts.

Any and Every bit of help is greatly appreciated. Getting the word out and sharing with your networks is greatly appreciated as well. Feel free to contact me!
