Update:
Sending a HUGE thank you to all who so generously donated to help Adell. The car has been repaired and paid for, and she'll be back in her own car very soon. Also a big shout out to Sergio at IV Auto Repair in La Habra, who recognized the situation and was able to give us a discounted price. I highly recommend IV Auto--I've been using them for several years for all my repairs and trust them completely.
Thanks again to ALL of you--Job well done folks!
For about 6 years I've been helping a lady who lives in her car, Adell Kim. She has worked hard to become self-sufficient, generally working as a cook in Asian restaurants. After a rough start and dealing with the pandemic, she has made good progress and is keeping up with her car payments and insurance, as well as her basic needs. But this week, she learned that her car is going to need a $3500 part repair just to be driveable again. There is no way she can pay that, or use a rental car long term. So I'm hoping that with some community help we can get her back in her car and back on the road to becoming self-sufficient.
I can't help but think of the "starfish story," and the boy who was throwing beached stars back into the water. A passerby commented, "It's too much, you can't make a difference." As he threw one back in the water, he simply said, "It made a difference to this one." Truly, if we all do a little, we can make a difference, one by one.
Thank you in advance for helping to empower one member of our homeless population.
