Help for Homeless Teenager

Donation protected
Good Evening families and all who read this message,

First of all let me say the picture is not our young teen... GoFundme makes me put a picture and I am protecting the privacy of this young girl out of respect for her and her family.

I’m writing you tonight because this past Sunday I heard a story from a young High School girl and it affected me.  As many of you know I am a First Sergeant in the Air Force.  On Sunday I met a young High School girls who joined the reserves this past summer a full year before she graduates High School.  This young 18 year old girl attends a High School in Bay County, plays basketball, wrestles, takes honors and AP courses, participates in junior ROTC, and works a full-time job.  I had a great conversation with our future Air Force member and she is mature, motivated, and very well spoken.  The story she told me didn’t start out joyful… in fact, I went to meet with her because I heard she was homeless.

Our young troop is not homeless by choice.  I have a son who is a Senior and I could not imagine having him on the streets.

As of Friday, December 1st this young girl is in a government assisted living location which she secured with the help of her school.  She must pay for this housing and they take 60% of her paycheck to do so.  She needs monetary help and I am asking all of you to find it in your hearts to donate money to help her eat and live on her own.  She does not have a car – she rides her bike to work and to school.  When she can’t take her bike, she takes cabs or gets a ride from High School friends (which is not reliable).  She can’t always work her full 40 hours because she goes to school, so she needs money to buy clothing and food.  I would like to get her to a point where she does not have to work a full-time job and can focus more on her schooling.  She is already struggling just to live and attend school... the added pressure of a full-time job is not needed.

I cannot in good conscience walk away from such a good person who needs help…especially a child.  I’m asking anyone who is able to join me in getting this young girl through an extremely difficult point in her life.

I will personally be managing the money as it comes in and providing it to her personally in stages.  I assure you this is a very smart girl, and she is already functioning as an adult out of necessity.

I appreciate anything anyone can do… especially around Christmas.

Sincerely,

Coach Jamie
