Help a struggling veteran

Donation protected
Specialist Adam Holbrook returned home from Afghanistan 5 years ago and has been fighting his own silent battle with PTSD ever since. He did what any tough infantry man would do and solider on . Adam never told anyone for a few years that demons that he was battling in his own head until it came to the point that he just could not go on anymore. His family could not pull him out of the dark place that he had sunk to. When he said that everyone would be better off with out him and that he could no longer live with the guilt we knew it was time to act. Adam was very resistant in telling the VA anything was wrong for fear of looking weak.  He came clean with the VA about all the suicidal thoughts/attempts and the demons resurfaced quickly.

Adam has been seen by the VA now for 2 years with no improvement. There are some days that he is paralyzed be fear to even leave his house. His medicine has been adjusted to the point that we do not know if side effects are worse than the PTSD itself. Adam is struggling to deal with the life he lived in the army and the things that he saw during his 2 tours. As his wife I know that he needs more help  than what the VA is providing for him. I have fought and his Psychiatrist have fought for him to no results. I have contacted congressmen and senators to just be told that they know the person who runs the VA and they know the care is bad, yet there is still no action on their end. I was also told that as a single working household that I should have insurance that I should look into that to get Adam help. My husband did not risk his life to be turned away by the very people that said they would take care of him when the time came.

I do not want my husband to become one of the 22 soldiers a day that kill themselves because he loses hope for help and relief. I have been his advocate to fight what seems like a losing battle.  Adam is not one to ask for help or even wants people to know about his problems. If he had it his way he would continue to suffer in silence until it just became to much to bear. I am asking for help from the community to provide my husband hope again. We are looking to fight the VA for the care that he deserves, which trust me has not been easy.  He needs outside help from the VA in forms of more holistic treatment. I am looking into different types of therapy outside the VA and support for my children who are starting to feel the effects of living with someone with such severe PTSD. Please help Adam so that he can see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that people care about him and want to see his situation improve. Once I get Adam to a place where he feels better my goal is to help other families not fight alone and know that there are people willing to fight alongside them because they were willing to sign up for the fight.
