Quadruple amputee needs our help

Donation protected

Please help May as she faces life as a quadruple amputee. In February 2017 May fell ill during a trip to Arizona working for an amusement company as a Ride Jockey (person who assembles, sloughs and operates amusement rides.) Life had thrown May some big challenges. She was looking for a new start.
May began having spiking fevers, bad headaches, and though she had a common stomach flu.  By the time EMT’s got to May she was in dire need of emergency medical attention. May was airlifted to a hospital in Tucson. She had contracted encephalitis in her brain and became septic.

May fell into a coma. Doctors told her family she had less than 1% chance of survival. Her three daughters came from California to say good-bye.

May survived. She regained consciousness but had to undergo constant dialysis. What came next was devastating. The sepsis caused the tissues in her hands, arms, toes and feet to die, turning bluish purple, then black. Doctors amputated May’s arms just below her elbows and her legs below the knees.

May spent 10 months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Life will be very different for her, but she is indeed a tough woman. What May needs now is financial support to start her life over. She faces months, years of rehabilitation to learn to use prosthetic legs and arms. She is moving into a small apartment and needs everything for the home.  She needs adaptive equipment to help her live more independently.  May needs help now. Leaving the rehab center and living on her own is a huge financial stress.

May is a songwriter, musician, and the lead singer of Thoramay, an alternative rock band.  Originally from Broooklyn, May lived and worked in San Bernadino, California where her band, who always wanted to help others, raised money and collected care packaged for the homeless. She is proudest of her role as mom to her three girls.

We ask that you please share this with family, friends, co-workers, church groups or anyone that can help. Donations will help May get into and pay rent for her apartment in January and for a few months. She will need help, friends and community. Open your heart and help May. Thank you.
