Help A DV Victim Leave A Toxic Home

I am hoping to raise money so that I can show an apartment cold that I can pay at least 6 months upfront and save to be able to afford rent myself after the 5 months.

On Friday, May 30, 2025, I became a victim of family domestic violence. My older brother James put his hands on me by pushing me against a wall, strangling me with both his hands while throwing me against a wall again. I tried pushing him off of me but was unsuccessful.

He proceeded to throw me down to the ground. My dad rushed in and pushed him off of me. My parents and sister-in-law saw him strangling me.

I called the cops and he was arrested. My family blames ME for what happened and now wants me out of the house so that my brother and his family can stay here.

Legally, my brother is not allowed to come back to this house. Someone in my family bailed him out and I am now terrified that something is going to happen since my family is against me.

My dad wants me out of the house. Honestly, I do not feel safe here. I am on disability which does not pay a lot, $1,400 a month. I feel like I need to start saving/raising money in case I am forced to leave home. I have called shelters nearby and they are all full.

I also feel like I may need to pay for a lawyer. I have no idea how much it'll cost and how to pay for it.

I honestly don't know what to expect.

So far my brother has stayed away from the house and me.

I have been trying to find an apartment that I can afford, but receiving $1,400 a month from disability, I don't qualify for any apartments. Most places rent is $1,000+ for a one bedroom or even a Studio.

I am on a housing wait list but they are not giving out vouchers at the moment and I am around the 4,500 person on the list. So I don't know when I'll be able to get help with reduced housing.

I am appreciative of any donation amount. I know time are tough for everyone and even sharing this is appreciated.
