Please help the Moore Family

My name is Lisa Moore. I'm a mother of 5, divorcee and grandmother of 3. In 2009, my life changed when my 15 year old daughter (Andrea) was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease called Devic Syndrome. The disease claimed Andrea's eyesight (right eye), created several lesions on her spine which affects her major functions. She has difficulty walking, suffers from incontinence and uses a motorized wheel chair at age 19.

To make matters worse, I became divorced when my home was being sold in foreclosure and had just lost my job. Our home was saved with a modification but I was in jeopardy of losing another job due to attendance because the care for Andrea was very demanding. It took 3 years and over 37 hospitals stays for to be approved for SSI. It is rarer for sibling to have this disease.

Devic's Syndrome claimed another daughter this year. Alisha is only one year older than Andrea. On July 1st, she was hospitalized and stopped breathing twice on July 4th. She was rushed to ICU where she remained for 22 days. She was put on a ventilator and lost all of her functions in her body because the disease created a lesion on her brain as well as she had Pneumonia in her chest.

Her illness started with stomach pains, losing weight (over 20lbs) and vomiting intermittently for about 23 days and had lost over 20 lbs. Alisha was transferred to a specialty hospital and came home on August 28. At 20 years old, she is wheelchair bound, uses a feeding tube and has a limited ability to swallow.

I'm worried about their health, keeping them safe and losing the stability that they have at home. I have lost 2 jobs because I needed to care for my daughters and I am now on unpaid leave to care for them both. We have been blessed with assistance to modify our home with stair lifts and a ramp.

There is over $200,000 in medical bills. With an average of 2 to 3 appointment per week, my home is in jeopardy of foreclosure. If I lose our home, I will lose the equipment and owe $8000.00 for the equipment. As long as my daughter lives with me in the home for at least 5 years, the equipment is free. My daughters were healthy young women starting to truly live their lives before this tragedy. In a matter of weeks, I almost lost my daughter Alisha, cannot pay my mortgage, accumulated over 200,000 debts and forced to take an unpaid leave to care for my children.

Since my mortgage has modified and I cannot qualify for another modification, I am asking for your help. This disease has changed my family and my life drastically. My girls are completely dependent on me, require care for their basic needs like bathing and feeding. God has gotten me through this so far and I believe we can continue to make it through.

Please help to keep them in a stable environment. Alisha spoke 3 languages (Japanese, Chinese, and French) and wanted to be an international interpreter. Andrea spoke German and was preparing to be a nurse prior to her illness.
