Please Help Yissy and Eli!

$6000 a Month. That's what's needed to care for two special boys. We're trying to provide them with six month's worth of nursing care - $36,000.

For years, Yona Yakobovitz toured Israel and the U.S. helping women discover Torah and the joy of being a Jewish woman -- all through the power of music. A world-class musician, Yona founded the first all-woman Jewish rock band that performs only to female audiences. She founded an organization to support Jewish female artists in all fields channel their talents in a Jewish way. She helped introduce the concept of music therapy in Israel. In seminaries, concert halls, hospitals and women's prisons, she has taught thousands of women to serve Hashem with joy.

Now, she is the single mother of two disabled, chronically ill children with life-threatening conditions, children who need round-the-clock 24/7 nursing care.

And she, too, is disabled by crippling rheumatoid arthritis.

Because most of her days are spent at hospitals and doctors' appointments with her children, she has been unable to keep working as musician and music therapist, leaving the family with no means of support..

Her son Yissy is in a wheelchair, has limited use of his hands, is legally blind and cannot speak. Nevertheless, he is a bright, engaging young man who understands three languages. His brother, Eliyahu has Down syndrome and severe, chronic breathing and swallowing problems. Both boys need oxygen and constant nursing care.

The mother is bearing the crushing physical, emotional and financial burden alone.

The children's on-going medical care necessary to keep them alive costs $6,000 a month more than what is covered by National Health Insurance (Bituach Leumi). They need a wheelchair lift to get Yissy up the stairs to the appartment, and a car with a wheelchair lift to get him around.

Neighbors bring a hot meal several times a week, but there is no money for nursing care, medications, or rent, let alone heating in the winter, clothes and shoes.

Despite their challenges, Yona and her children have touched the hearts of so many people with their courage, joy and deep emunah.

Yona has given so much of herself to the Jewish community. Now it's our turn to give back. If we all come to their aid, together we could make a real difference!

We've set a goal of help them cover 6 months of nursing care, but clearly regular contributions would substantially alleviate the family's on-going desperate situation as well as fulfill our own obligation to help others in their time of need.

Please do the utmost you can to help ease the burden on these precious children and their mother.

Thank G-d, Yona and her children are blessed with an extended network of family relatives and friends who care about them deeply.

Let us show that care and appreciation in a concrete way. If we all come to their aid, together we can make a real difference! Regular contributions would substantially alleviate the family's desperate situation as well as fulfill our own obligation to help our friends and close ones in their time of need.

Yona and her children have touched so many of our lives and helped so many people.

Please do the utmost you can to ease the burden on these children and their mother.
