Help Women and Children in Benin

Hi Everyone,
                             My name is Steve, i'm 53, from Wales. I am an avid traveller who met Mano [Herman] , one of the organisers of APECD, two years ago in the coastal town of Grand Popo, located in South Benin in West Africa. Mano is a kind and friendly man who is investing his time and effort into elevating the impoverished and vulnerable local community of  women and children in Grand Popo. These people are struggling and most live on less than $1 a day. The not for profit organisation APECD aims at promoting the empowerment of the Popo women by helping resuscitate traditional income generating activities that are rapidly disappearing, such as: Preparation of cooking salt, jam, coconut oil and braiding mats etc. One goal is to purchase labour saving machinery to remove the arduousness of the physically intensive work. The organisation is also trying to encourage the children to continue these dying traditional activities through teaching and training programmes. Another worthwhile aim of the community is to raise awareness regarding the environment by way of recycling projects eg collection and treatment of non biodegradable products to create zero plastic waste.
