Rebuild Gladys & Emmanuel's Home

I am setting up this campaign on behalf of my cousin, Gladys, her partner Emmanuel and their three kids. When hurricane María decimated Puerto Rico, Sept 20 - 21, the home that they had built for themselves, filled with their love of family, was ruined.

He establecido esta campaña para apoyar a mi prima, Gladys, su pareja Emmanuel, y sus tres hijos.   Cuando el huracán María destruyó a Puerto Rico, entre el 20-21 de Sept, el hogar que construyeron  ellos mismos, con mucho cariño y amor, quedó destruido.

[Video was filmed on 13 Oct 2017, three weeks after the hurricane, and shows the devastating impact of the daily rainstorms that flood the house, due to the damage sustained by the roof during the hurricane / Vídeo grabado el 13 de Oct 2017, tres semanas después del huracán, que muestra el impacto devastador de los aguaceros diarios que inundan la casa como resultado del daño al techo durante el huracán]

Their home is uninhabitable, with the roof severely damaged (it would have been completely lost, but for having been tied down), and the entire structure has been filled with mold due to water damage throughout the house.

La casa está inhabitable, con el techo severamente dañado (el cual se hubiera perdido por completo de no haber estado anclado), y la estructura entera está llena de moho debido al daño causado por el agua que entró en toda la casa.

They have lost almost everything and are desperate to have a house that they can return to, where their kids can again feel safe and secure, and that they can once again call home.

Perdieron casi todo, y están desesperados por tener una casa a donde puedan regresar, donde sus hijos puedan sentirse seguros, y que una vez más puedan llamarla su hogar.

They have been told that it will cost at least $20,000 to clean, rebuild and make inhabitable again. And, despite having signed up with FEMA it will likely be months before they are able to receive any federal funds. Until they are able to move back in to their home, they are dependent on extended family for a place to live, and unable to establish a foundation for themselves and their kids, who desperately need a return to some kind of normalcy.

Se les ha dicho que costará por lo menos $20,000 limpiar, y reconstruir de nuevo para que la casa sea habitable. Y, aunque se han registrado con FEMA, es probable que pasen meses antes de que reciban fondos de parte del gobierno federal. Hasta que puedan volver a su propio hogar, dependen de familiares para tener donde vivir, y es imposible establecer un base y rutina para ellos y sus hijos, quienes necesitan volver a la normalidad urgentemente.

Ever since I learned about the degree of destruction in Puerto Rico, all I have been able to think about is my family in Puerto Rico, and how I could help them. Feeling like my hands have been tied, while watching the destruction of familiar places and hearing the news going from bad to worse, has been excruciating. This campaign to help my cousin has been the most meaningful way that I can help her and her family get back on their feet, and it won't be possible without your support. Please help me help my family.

Desde que me enteré del alcance de la destrucción en Puerto Rico, no he podido pensar en nada más que la situación de mi familia en Puerto Rico, y como poder ayudarles. Ha sido insoportable ver las imágenes de la destrucción de lugares conocidos, recibir noticias que la situación sigue yendo de mal a peor, y sentirme con las manos atadas. Esta campaña en apoyo de mi prima ha sido la manera más significativa en que yo puedo ayudarle a ella y a su familia volver a poder pararse en sus propios pies de nuevo. Y no será posible sin tu apoyo. Por favor, ayúdame a ayudar a mi familia.

In the amazing event that we are able to raise more than the $20,000 that we are asking for, excess funds will be shared with others in the Guayanilla community that are in a similar need to rebuild and reconstruct their homes and their lives.

En caso fenomenal de que logremos recaudar más de los $20,000 que se están pidiendo, estos fondos en exceso serán compartidos con otros en la comunidad de Guayanilla que se encuentran con la misma necesidad de reconstruir sus hogares y sus vidas.

Due to the widespread communications outage in Puerto Rico, I am only able to connect with Gladys every few days, when she is able to find wifi, or is fortunate enough to get a data signal on her phone, but please check in for more updates about how their lives are being impacted by the storm and their progress towards recovery and reconstruction.
