Here is a bit of an idea on what I will be doing:
~Program Overview~
You will work side by side with the villagers as they struggle to lift themselves out of poverty; parents want clean water and dry homes, children want to learn English to allow them to work in the tourism industry and the community needs a regular supply of food and access to clean water to sustain itself. You will be a part of building the future for a Cambodian village.
In the lush green farmland around Siem Reap where villagers live on less than $2.00 per day, you will assist at the local school, build new homes for families in need, assist in delivering new facilities and life enhancing skills to disadvantaged rural children and orphans.
For the second week of the program you will travel through the ruins of Angkor Wat to the north of Cambodia (about two hours from Siem Reap). The wildlife sanctuary, situated on 1 million acres of jungle habitat, is working to conserve native flora and fauna species, including the Asian elephant, tigers, monkeys, and buffalos.
This safe haven requires a lot of upkeep: you will be harvesting and replanting food supplies, improving infrastructure, and participating in general maintenance, such as planting trees to conserve the jungle. You will also work in the garden to help the sanctuary become more self-sufficient and grow its own produce.
