In life, experience often proves to be our best teacher.
A United States Department of Education study announced that children who travel over summer break do better in reading and math. Their general knowledge is also superior to that of those children who do not travel.
When children travel, their horizons are broadened and minds opened. They appreciate other people, other cultures and the entire world more so than those children who stay in the same small community their whole lives. They see firsthand what is possible for their future. Hence the campaign title, "˜Help Sell a Dream'. Children who visit museums, historical sites, national or state parks, zoos, beaches and similar types of places all perform better in school. A visit to the Hoover Dam could inspire a future engineer. A visit to a science museum could create a future astronaut, inventor or doctor. A visit to a zoo can inspire future biologists or wildlife lovers. These are the dreams that we want for our students. These are the dreams that promote goal oriented learners and adults who are able to contribute to society. These are the dreams that change entire families because one child went to college. These are the dreams WE MUST SELL NOW!!
The 4th grade team at Mary Ford Elementary School is raising money to take 37 4th graders to Washington DC. Mary Ford is in a high poverty, high crime area in Charleston SC, where the children don't typically travel outside of their communities. However, the parents of our students recognize the power of education through exposure and are working diligently to raise half of the money for this trip. Our students are dedicated to breaking the chain of poverty. We, the teachers of these students, are dedicated to helping them. The 4th grade team is here to solicit your help in meeting the parents half way. We are here for your help to:::SELL A DREAM!!
