Imagine losing hope of ever stepping into a university, then being given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study at Bishop Stuart University Mbarara.
This dream came true for a group of resilient Refugee and Host Community students from Isingiro District, thanks to the MasterCard Foundation scholarship. These students, pursuing short courses in fields like ICT and Agri-business, and many more, are now equipped with skills to transform their lives and uplift their communities.
But their journey faces a critical roadblock: securing internships to complete their training and graduate.
With internship opportunities scarce—especially for the one-month period required—many students are left in uncertainty, their bright futures hanging in the balance.
That’s where Her Dreams Count, a refugee women-led organization, steps in. As one of the students and the President of the second cohort, the founder of Her Dreams Count is determined to bridge this gap.
By creating an inclusive internship program, we can provide these students with:
- A platform to give back by teaching their newfound skills to other youth in the community.
- Hands-on experience under the mentorship of seasoned experts.
- A supportive environment to grow and refine their abilities.
But we can’t do this alone. We need your support to make this vision a reality.
Your donation will help us:
- Engage experienced mentors to guide and nurture these students.
- Provide essential resources to facilitate skill-sharing sessions with the community.
- Ensure access to internet and light refreshments for productive and enjoyable learning.
- Offer transport refunds and small allowances to ease the financial burden on interns.
We’ve designed each internship program to benefit 50 people (25 refugees and 25 host community members), and we’ve calculated the cost of each program to be $6,000. Our fundraising goal is to reach a total of $12,000 so that we can run two internship programs over the next three months, benefitting 100 people directly and hundreds more indirectly.
