This Could Be Your Mom!

Imagine for a moment... your mom... Imagine over night her home, posessions, car, even clothes were all gone. My mom has lost everything. Her life's savings are gone along with all of her worldly possessions. My 75 year old single mom, Geri Collins, lives bravely alone in Katy, TX where she moved cross country from CT after the loss of her mother, my grandmother at the age of 96, 6 years ago.  This was a real adventure for my mom as this was the first time she would live outside of her home town. She packed up and invested her life savings in a lovely home to live out her golden years. She kept an immaculate home some might call pristinely kept. She loved her flower gardens and hummingbirds and she felt very comfortable and at home there. She was not in a flood zone, therefore it was not recommended as necessary by her insurance company to add flood insurance. Sadly, Harvey has taken her home along with her life savings. The water rose to nearly 3 feet inside the house. She has no resources to rebuild, no home, car or personal effects. Volunteers have heroically aided in gutting the house for us, however, that is just the beginning.  She is emotionally and financially devastated by this. Toxins such as black mold and feces throughout the home have prevented her from salvaging much. She worries about her future and cries constantly not knowing how to recover from this disaster. Myself and my sister are doing all we can within our modest means to help her but find ourselves drowning in the enormity of the financial loss. We are finding the magnitude of the situation to be beyond anything we could have imagined. We worry that if my mom were to have a health crisis... well, there are simply no words. This is taking a toll on her and us.

We are in desprate need of your support and help.  Any donations big or small will be greatly appreciated. The funds raised will be applied directly to rebuilding her home as well as content replacement.  I have a savings account set up through Bank of America in which all funds will be transferred directly to my Mom to dispurse for initial expenses such as mold inspection, remediation/abatement, storage for her few salvagable items, and basic needs. Funds will also go toward long term rebuild/replacement expenses.
