SUPPORT OUR MENTAL HEALTH SANCTUARY
As parents and mental health nurse practitioners, my husband and I did our best to support our son through his journey of mental suffering, isolation and periods of homelessness over a span of ten difficult years. Several years ago, when asked what he needed, our son’s response was “security and a healing home”.
We then devoted much of our time and money to creating an uplifting home with affordable rent, for him and other sensitive individuals willing to embark on a healing path in the aftermath of multiple psychological crises.
Since 2016, Mt. Tahoma Sanctuary in Tacoma, Washington, has been demonstrating the power of community, acceptance and belonging, learning and healing, cooperation and mutual problem solving, spiritual growth and… healthy eating. Everyone involved contributes to this innovative home-based model of mental health resilience
Our story was like so many families until our son found a path of healing through yoga and a healing home. He is now a certified teacher giving freely to others dealing with mental health challenges or homelessness. Transformation is possible for so many, and yet available to so few. We intend that Mt. Tahoma Sanctuary will be a seed for more healing homes.
OUR REQUEST
When our insurance company sent a letter of non-renewal because of the poor condition of our roof, we had to take action. We are continuing to raise money to pay back our roof loan, and to pay for heat system repairs as well as structural needs. We do not receive any government or charity funding.
