Help Marcela Beat Multiple Sclerosis

As many of you know my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) about 1yr after we were married. For those that don’t know, MS is a debilitating disease where your own body’s immune system eats away the myelin sheath that covers the nerve endings in your brain and spinal cord and eventually severs these connections. This damage causes interference and loss of communication between your brain, spinal cord, and the rest of your body which initially materializes in what are called attacks such as loss of vision, trouble walking, or the inability to move parts of your body ( all of which my wife has experienced). Initially you have what is called relapse remitting MS which means these symptoms go away after a short time with medication which then can progress into what is called Secondary progressive MS. At this stage your condition will continue to deteriorate until you are confined to a wheel chair or bed ridden.

I am posting this because my wife’s condition was upgraded to the level of secondary progressive last year, and she has worked her way thru almost all of the medications currently available for treatment in the United States and is taking numerouse pain medications. She is currently off of MS medication and is working to get on one of the newer drugs for the time being.  We are raising funds to afford to sending her to Russia for a ground breaking treatment called HSCT. A friend of hers recently traveled there to have this treatment done last May and has seen the disease fully put into remission. She no longer needs her cane to walk and is getting better every day.  60 minutes recently followed a patient thru the entire procedure with this doctor you can google it if you like it’s amazing search HSCT 60 min march 2014.  Unfortunately this treatment is not offered in the United States and is not covered by insurance. The procedure takes about 6 weeks and costs around $40,000 plus the price of travel.  She has been able to get an appointment to travel to Russia for treatment this October, and we are so hoping to be able to raise the funds. It is hard watching someone you love and used to run, bike, and walk with slowly lose the ability to do those things and have trouble walking at all or afraid to go to the store with your children because if they run off she can’t chase after them.  Any donation will help and be much appreciated.
