Help Liam Recover from Leukemia

As many of you know Eliza and Phillip have been given the run around by doctors since June trying to figure out what was wrong with Liam's foot. After finally getting a diagnose of a foot fracture from the pediatric orthopedic specialist, they were finally relieved to know what was causing their son not to be able to walk. Little did they know their journey was far from over. Two weeks later he was back at the orthopedic specialist with no improvement. The doctors were confused and ordered some blood work to be done. On August 24, 2018 they were sent to UVA Hospital to have a 2nd set of labs drawn, after the first set were found to abnormal. On August 25, 2018 (Liam's 3rd birthday) their worst fears were confirmed, the diagnosis was Pre-B ALL Leukemia.

Since then Liam has remained hospitalized in the Pediatric Unit at UVA and received his first round of Chemo on Monday August 27, 2018 to fight this terrible disease. 

No parent should ever have to hear the words "Your child has cancer."

They were totally blindsided by this, the ground has fallen out from beneath their feet and they are still having great difficulty dealing with all of this. They are asking for privacy and time to process all of this.

As many of you may know Liam's Grandfather, Briant Atkins and his Great-Grandfather Dickie Atkins have been a huge part of Fire and Rescue for many years helping the community in any way they could.
