PLEASE!!! COULD YOU FIND IT IN YOUR HEART, to make a donation to help pay Kim Johnson's overwhelming medical expenses in these, the final miles on Her ROAD TO RECOVERY . She is the loving wife of Roland and, the incredible mother of Roland Q., a U.S. Marine and Amani, a high school sophomore.
1 year ago, the Monday after Thanksgiving, Kim suffered 2 cerebral hemmorages, 2 major brain surgeries and spent 6 months recovering in the hospital. After fighting through a plethora of complications and, setbacks She was well enough to begin the long process of healing and rebuilding. As an outpatient She has received intense physical and occupational therapy along with some, cognative and speech therapy. Physically Her body has recovered wonderfully, She is up and moving, doing things on Her own and, getting stronger every day! Her traumatized brain has also healed to the point where She is aware that something has happened to Her, that She is somehow "different" as is everything around Her. Her memories are returning but, not in a y particular order. She has a 6 month "gap" where she remembers nothing. At times She has difficulties putting some things into words and, finding the right words. She still has trouble with telling time, days of the week, months of the year, things like that. She remembers who and, how She was before the surgeries and sometimes struggles with the harsh reality that something is different. She is aware enough to know but, She just can't put Her finger on it. YET!
Kim is ready for the final phase in Her recovery. The phase that will help Her put all the puzzle pieces together, to make sense of it all and, will give her back Her independence! This phase is intenseive cognative and, speech therapy. And there in lies our dilemma. The physical and, occupational therapies has almost exhausted the number of benefit days allowed per year by the insurance I have through my job. There sre very few days left for this phase of therapy and, once exhausted there will be none until next year.
The bills from the surgeries, hospital stay and medicines along with the co-pays for the follow-up doctor visits and, therapies hs emptied our bank account.
The one income we are so very blessed to have still coming in is barely enough to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. We are at the point where we have to choose between buying food or medecine, pay a bill or a co-pay. And since we do have one income source...my job...she is ineligable for any assistance.
