Help Street Children in Kebale, Uganda

Donation protected
A 2013 study by the African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect estimated that there are 10,000 street children in Uganda, a 70 per cent increase in the number of children on the streets since 1993, with 16 new children coming to the Kampala streets every day. Living, sleeping and working in public, street children are subjected to extreme risk of violence and abuse.

The KASA programme helps these street children to get off the streets in Kabale and offer them hope for the future.

KASA staff find children on the street, gain their trust and bring them to the KASA home. On the streets, the children shared the little they found of food from the dumpsters in town. Some of the kids sniffed glue, petrol and others took alcohol and marijuana. Life on the street is rough. For most of them, their biggest dream is to attend school and get an education. They don't own much, and in city's like Kabale it can get as cold as 5 - 10 degrees Celsius at night, and this leads to that one torn t-shirt they own is not enough to stay warm.

KASA Objectives:
·         Reduce the number of street children in the town of Kabale.
·         Support street children in a way that will provide them with hope for the future.
·         Provide guidance and counselling to street children.
·         Enable the street children of school-going age to attend school.
·         Enable street children to return to their original families by working with such families to achieve reconciliation.

KASA Challenges:
·         Paying school fees and providing scholastic materials.
·         Providing enough beds, mattresses, blankets and bedsheets.
·         Providing enough shoes and clothing for KASA children.
·         Providing enough food to cater for all the children at KASA
·         After reuniting children with their families, KASA is faced with the challenge of not having enough funds to visit them at their homes to check on their wellbeing.
·         Maintaining staff upkeep which is still low.
·         There are not enough computers to run the programs of the project and help in teaching the children how to use a computer.
·         There is a lack of seats, tables and enough reading and teaching materials.
·         The medication for the children is expensive.

KASA provides these children with food, accommodation, education, counselling, sandplay, medical care and co-curricular activities such as playing football netball and athletics. Unfortunately, KASA is hard to finance, despite three volunteers working 24 hours a day without payment. The KASA Programme has managed to get 65 children in their care. Sadly, some children have found their way back to the street because of lacking funds to cater for all of them. Please give what you can to help KASA continue its important work and help the street children of Uganda.

Your donation will go straight to the care of these children.
