Help Della Rebuild after Harvey

Donation protected
As Hurricane Harvey approached the city of Houston, the HI Houston Hostel team made great efforts to prepare for the upcoming disruption in operations, for keeping our guests safe and looking after the facility. With little or no flooding affecting the Montrose neighborhood, our guests and staff weathered the storm in good spirits.

Unfortunately for HI Houston’s manager, Della Saunders, it was a different story. She was ordered to evacuate her house, leaving much behind. After spending several nights at her sister's house, she returned home to find that the floodwaters had entered her single level home, causing damages to floors, walls, furnishings and much more. She was also informed that her vehicle maybe designated as totaled due to floodwater damages and can't be operated.

Because her home is located in a neighborhood that hasn’t flooded for more than 100 years, Della did not have flood coverage as part of her insurance.

Homes have been abandoned, and businesses are trying to recover as people struggle with the challenges of trying to get their lives back to normal. Della has been a resident of Houston since 1998, and believes this is the worst she has ever seen the city.

HI USA is calling on our community of travelers and friends to help us help Della and her family rebuild their home and lives after dealing with this overwhelming event. Any donation that you are willing to contribute would be extremely appreciated.

Many Thanks

Della and the HI USA family
