Help 25 Educators Get Paid During Covid-19 Crisis

With the sudden closure of ABC Child Center due to COVID-19/ Coronavirus, the devoted teachers, assistants, and administrators are without wages. For the foreseeable future, they have been asked to apply for unemployment insurance. As so many of us know firsthand, going a week without a paycheck can be crippling and cause long-term effects on your financial health. And as so many of us also know, unemployment insurance only provides a fraction of what a worker typically earns.

There are 21 teachers and assistants, and 4 administrators who often provide support in the classrooms.  We are raising funds to go DIRECTLY to these incredible educators during this uncertain moment, so that we can come back from this crisis as a whole ABC family.  The initial goal of $7,500 is modest. Hopefully we can help further.  (Update: now that we have reached the initial goal, we have increased it to $20,000 so that each staff member can receive $800 each / roughly a weeks pay ).

Yes, it would be ideal if workers and small businesses had better safety nets that could guarantee full wages in times of crisis. Until then, please donate what you can, to this campaign or to other organizations who are trying to fill in the vital financial gaps of our struggling communities. 

~ ABC Child Center is a preschool and childcare program in Greenpoint (Brooklyn), New York. It was opened in 1993 by a local mother, who in 2008 passed it on to her youngest daughter. It has been an integral part of the community for 27 years! ~

~ Logistical details: the funds will be withdrawn by parent Hiroko Schappert (Kaede's mom).  She will distribute it evenly between all 25 staff members via their individually preferred methods (PayPal, Venmo, Cash app, Check). For transparency, she is sharing documentation of the transactions with a team of parents.
