In 2003 at just 3 years old Jessica was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma cancer and for the last 13 years has battleled courageously! Jessie has had around 3 dozen major surgeries including 2 amputations, long term chemo and radiation multiple times, bone marrow transplant, 2 major brain surgeries, and now the disease has come back aggressively in two places in her brain and there is just nothing more the doctors can do. Cancer however cannot not defeat her, nor this family, as it is powerless to destroy, faith, hope, and love.
Jessica's favorite bible passage is 1 Corinthians 13:13. "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" For Jessie it's not just a verse but how she has lived her life. Always selflessly thinking of others.
Several years ago Jessica started something call "Jessie's Journey - Giving Back" where she puts together wonderful gift baskets and gives them out to children struggling with illness while encouraging them. She also has her famous "Quotes of the day" such as "The happiest people don't have the best iof everything, they just make the best of everything"
Jessie once told me she believes her God given purpose is to encourage others with what she is going through. And she does that very well as she has touched the hearts of thousands of people.
As family struggles go, in 2014 in addition to the above, I myself (Bart - Jessie's dad) was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Discitus. The primary symptom is excruciating almost unbearable pain. There is no remaining evidence of the disease today, however, I am still battling the permanent damage and pain the disease did to my spine and have a long road of recovery ahead as well as the thousands of dollars in medical bills.
We are so grateful for the wonderful friends and family God has placed around us that are walking this journey with us, we cannot express our gratitude enough.
We know many people are in need and we can't help everyone so please give as the Lord leads. Most of all please pray for our family that God's glorious peace would be upon us as we travel down this difficult road. Thank you and may the peace of God through faith in Jesus Christ be upon you as well.
