Hearts for Trinity

In June 2012, my 12 year-old niece, Trinity Goodson, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. A tumor a little smaller than a 2-liter bottle had wrapped itself around her left lung and pushed her heart out of place and into the right lung and her esophagus. We were told that her form of cancer was highly treatable but very aggressive. She started chemotherapy straight away. After a year and three days of chemotherapy treatments she was declared in remission. She, of course, had to continue on her maintenance chemo until October of 2014. We were ecstatic and thankful for that miracle and just knew she had beat this terrible disease!!
In August, Trinity started complaining of headaches. Her parents had her eyes checked and everything seemed to be fine. In October, blurred vision started to accompany the headaches. On November 20th, she was scheduled for another maintenance chemotherapy treatment at the clinic. At this point, Trinity made it clear that she could not see anything out of her left eye. When the doctor could not get a normal response from her eye, they immediately sent her for an MRI of her brain. Within half an hour of leaving the MRI appointment, the family was called to bring Trinity back to the hospital immediately to be admitted. They had found that her left optic nerve was being strangled by the Lymphoma cancer. The cancer was found to be on her brain and on her spinal column. She had relapsed! With a relapse of this type of cancer, the cancer cells have already developed a resistance to the chemotherapy drugs. This means that her cancer will continue to grow unless she gets a bone marrow transplant (BMT). They have started preparing her for this transplant on several different occasions. Each time, something new keeps Trinity from starting the BMT: our first donor had to back out, the second donor became sick, and most recently, Trinity tested positive for RSV. On February 18th, she was admitted into the hospital to receive 3 days of high dose chemo. Her BMT is tentatively scheduled for around the 20th of March. She is about to begin a very difficult chapter of her life, one that no child or family should have to endure. Trinity's family did okay financially through the the first year and half of her battle with a little help from friends and family. That year and a half took all their savings and every extra penny they had to fight Trinity's cancer and help take care of their other 2 children, Cerenity and Autumn. They were just starting to get back on their feet when Trinity relapsed. Medical bills, gas for transport back and forth to the hospital, meals, and child care for the other children all add up quickly!
Trinity has touched our hearts and so many of you have given your heart to Trinity on our Hearts for Trinity page on Facebook. Many of you contact us privately because you want to help.
