Have a Heart, Help Peter Salter!

Some of you know Peter Salter as a great reporter and former city editor of the Lincoln Journal Star; some of you know him as a serious mountain bike rider or Tour de Nebraska regular; or as the father of three grown sons, a 46-year-old North Dakota transplant who has grown to love Nebraska since he moved here in 1999.
When Peter went to the doctor in March feeling short of breath, he expected to hear his exercise-induced asthma was worse, not that his heart was failing. Eight weeks and an artery-clearing stent later, Peter is still hooked up to a portable defibrillator because he is at risk of sudden heart death.
Peter is the kind of guy who never wants to draw attention to himself, so it’s hard for him to walk around hooked up to wires and cords, a black box on a strap around his neck, begging the question: What is that? And it’s also hard (and humbling) for him to allow friends to set up this funding page, but his medical bills will stretch far into the future, along with a lifetime of expensive medication and a chance of additional surgery.
Please help Peter if you can.
