As so many of you know , for the past 5 years I have been fighting an incredibly difficult chronic illness called Chronic Pancreatitis. As I have learned, this is an illness that can have an affect on and cause damage to nearly every part of your body along with its many debilitating symptoms. My struggle has included daily severe pain and nausea as well as becoming an insulin dependent type 3 diabetic and needing to receive nutritional support via a feeding tube.
Because these symptoms have become so severe the majority of my life now revolves around trying to manage this illness and deal with the almost monthly hospital admissions. Over the last year it has become increasingly evident to myself, my family, and my team of doctors that there are no longer treatment options for me within the state of Colorado. It has been a difficult few months trying to decide what to do, what my best options are, or if I really even had options.
On June 7, 2017 my mom and I had the opportunity to fly to Charlelston, South Carolina to meet with an amazing doctor who specializes in the treatment of patients with Chronic Pancreatitis. After our appointment with Dr. Morgan and her team, it was evident that this was the best possible place for me to recieve treatment and I am scheduled to undergo a total pancreatectomy surgery on July 13th.
The five hour surgery will consist of removing my entire pancreas as well as my entire spleen (which is protocol).
This innovative surgical treatment has been proven to decrease damaging inflammation, eliminate the risk for pancreatic cancer and promotes healing and restoration to a damaged digestive system.
As my surgery date is quickly approaching, I am still needing to raise a substantial amount of money in order to make this trip to South Carolina for the surgery possible. The money I am needing to raise will go towards travel costs for my mom and I, accommodations for my mom and I during my recovery period, and help with hospital costs that will not be covered by my insurance.
I know that we still have a lot of money to raise but I have faith that with the help of you wonderful people, that this life changing surgery can be possible!
To those of you who have already expressed your desire to help me during this time, I am eternally grateful.
For those who feel inclined to share my story with friends, family, or prayer groups I would feel honored.
