WOW! I had only set my Campaign Goal for $3,500 although the total I needed to raise was $5,000 - cant believe how quickly I hit that mark, and how more people are still helping to get me to my ultimate goal. I was hit about 30 years to early with an arrhythmia that suddenly and fiercely impacted my life.
With heart surgery planned for 8/29/2013, and laid off just 2 weeks
prior, I launched this fundraiser to help cover all the medical bills.

Yes that's right, I'm 33 and already in need of heart surgery. What I have is specifically an electrical issue of the heart called ventricular tachycardia "“ something one is generally born with, but doesn't present itself until the Golden Years. It's extremely rare for anyone so young as myself to have. While many arrhythmia's may be mild, this one is the big scary "“ and requires daily medication or a surgery called an ablation which, if successful, is a complete cure. It's a procedure I badly need and as such, regardless of employment status, I'm moving forward with it. But I need HELP; something that has never been easy for me to ask for, yet here I find myself with a great need for support due to being laid off 2 weeks prior to surgery.
I began presenting significant symptoms in June, namely dizzy spells that almost made me pass out, consistent and far more intense heart palpitations than I had been feeling from time to time in years past, and "episodes" in which my heart would race, slow to a crawl and then finally level itself out. On July 3rd I was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia (leading cause of sudden cardiac arrest). As much as I persisted, I had to give in to the Doctor's instance that I start on a Beta-Blocker until such time as I could afford the heart surgery.
Though I have been able to make it through the day to day, the Beta-Blockers (Metoprolol Succinate) take a significant toll. I'm constantly exhausted "“ as soon as I start to relax I'm wiped out and there's not much shy of a good sleep that helps. And there are the daily bouts of nausea, sore throat, extreme thirst, headaches, fogginess, taste sensitivities and other side effects to deal with. It's been a rather inactive summer this year, and to top it off, I can't even consider having children some day if I'm still taking this medication (who knows the long term effects in that respect).
My surgery has been scheduled since mid July for Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Hoag Hospital. They give me an 85-90% chance that the ablation will be a total cure for my condition and alleviate any need for Beta-Blockers moving forward. Even with insurance, I have about $5,000 in medical bills to cover. With no money coming in and a tightrope on covering daily living expenses right now, I can't help but find myself wondering how I'll afford the costs of surgery too.
The ultimate goal that I actually need to pay to cover all surgical and most of my pre/post opp doctors visits and testing is $5,000. I am hoping to raise $3,500 here in order to pay the most imminent medical bills, immediate surgery costs, post opp doctors visits, and the first few months of hospital payments that are sure to come soon after surgery.
