Our nest, where our daughters grow up, that lovely home, with not much inside other than our beautiful family: Kerly (Mom), Ricardo (Dad), and our amazing little ones Ivanna (5y) and Valentina (1y). All Venezuelan-American citizens.
Harvey came to devastate so much, our home did not escape from it. It is under water with everything else we own inside, our cloths, our baby goods, our life.
We tried so hard to keep the water out! Our two little ones were part of a hard work too.
We sealed the possible entry points,
we lifted our belongings,
And there was a point on which Kerly said, "we must go", and so we did.
The house was flooded that night and there was nothing we could do, it will remain underwater for a long time while they drain Addicks and Barker reservoirs through the Buffalo Bayou.
We did not have a flood insurance, and we owe the house to the bank, almost all of it. The repairs will require a large investment to recover the structure of the house due to the long exposure to the water. We are currently not allowed to go back by the government to try to minimize the damage, and we expect to loose almost everything inside.
The repairs are roughly expected by a few builders to be around $90,000. If we withdraw what we have between our savings and 401k we may cover the rest of what we have set as the target for this campaign.
We think we can progressively acquire other essential goods, and if the mold does not damage those belongings above the water we will have what we need to start again.
We are currently staying at the house of a beautiful and immensely kind family who offered their help and warm shelter since we were evacuated.
Our daughter Ivanna got her three turtles back! Now she is able to show them to the kids in this neighborhood where the residents have been so kind with us bringing toys and other supplies.
Now we can't wait to get our lives back. This will be a long road of positivism and hard work. We are ready for the challenge, but we can't do it alone. The funds we raise with this campaign will be used to repair our home to a basic level where it is safe to live.
All in all, I only want to thank in advance any contributions that will help us get there. We will get back to our beautiful nest, I know.
