MISSION: ANCHORAGE

Purpose?
I am going to Alaska for 10 weeks this summer to share the gospel in Kodiak, and love on the children of Anchorage and battered women of Nome!
I will be on a mission to spread the love that Christ has given us and tell the good news of our eternal salvation through him. I pray we will be able to not only lead people to Christ, but to make disciples of the people of Alaska, encouraging them to push forward and continue Christ's ministry, making more disciples. I ask that you pray for time well used, for God to be prepping the hearts of those he wishes us to connect with, and prepare me and my teams' hearts as we get ready to serve for a long period of time. Please pray for endurance and daily rejuvenation as we get into The Word and serve. Pray for further development of our faith, and opportunities for us to grow in our trust in the Lord.


Why Alaska? -Sad Stuff-
Alaska is a bit of a dark place.



Alaska has the highest rate of suicide per capita in the country. More than 90% of people who die by suicide have depression or another diagnosable, treatable mental or substance abuse disorder, according to American Association of Suicidology.
Alaska ranks among the top 5 states in the nation for per capita rates of domestic violence.
The rate of Alaskan women being killed by a partner is 1.5 times the national average.
Since 1976, Alaska has ranked in the top five states in the nation for the highest rate of reported rape per capita. In 1993, Alaska ranked 1st in the nation: highest per capita incidence of rape.
Alaska has 6 times the national average of reported child sexual assault.
1 in 4 girls before the age of 12 and 1 in 6 boys before the age of 18 nationally will be sexually assaulted.
Fairbanks Health Center surveyed 419 clients over a 3-week period and found that 24% reported physical abuse in the past 6 months while 39% reported some form of sexual abuse (1995).
In 3 out of 4 reported cases, the victim knew the offender, the most commonly reported type of sexual abuse is a father who commits incest with his daughter--usually the eldest daughter.
As many as 4 out of 5 offenders were sexually assaulted as children.
One-third of incest victims' mothers were sexually abused as children.
Alaska's rape rate is 2.2 times the national average overall.

Money?
All money donated will be going to cover living expenses. Living in Alaska is more expensive than the lower 48 due to the fact that all food and other necessities are imported.

May 23-Fly into Kodiak- Kodiak Crab Festival Outreach Project
Travel to Anchorage- Live and serve there for eight weeks!
August 3- Travel to Nome, AK to work with battered women.
August 10th- Fly back to Texas! Just in time to start my Junior year at Tarleton State University, pursuing a degree in Animal Production.

Scripture shows us the importance of living every day, regardless of location, filled with purpose. Matthew 28: 19-20 says "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
