Larry's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
In May 2016, my stepfather Larry Hampton was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 54. Shortly after his diagnosis he and my mother finally married, the ceremony was full of love and tears. That summer he began his fight with surgery and chemo treatments. When he was diagnosed he was given approximately 2 years.

Larry tried every treatment suggested by his doctors, and with the love and support of his wife, 3 daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter, grandson, friends and neighbors, he enjoyed this past year and a half and was able to balance out the bad days with the good. Our family formed many memories that we will cherish forever.

Over the past few months, Larry's health has taken a dive. There are no more treatments the doctors can suggest. My mother, his wife, Becky, has been missing work frequently and has been off work altogether this past month to care for him and to address her own health issues.

On November 15th, Larry spent his first night in the hospital since his surgery last year, the next morning his doctor revealed that his CT scans suggest only "a week, maybe a little more". I rushed home from college the next day to be here with him. We now have Hospice involved and are aware that every moment we have with him counts. It was a miracle that our little family was able to spend Thanksgiving together, but we know our time is limited.

Between medical costs, and both my mother and myself missing weeks of work, our family is in need of help. Larry has always been strong and independent. He was always the person to take care of others, so it's been difficult for him to accept that he needs our help. And he feels guilty for the burden he has put on all of us. But it is his turn to be taken care of, and our family has made every sacrifice we can to do so.

We are in need of help, and anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.
