Kimber's medical expenses

On 09/29/2017 Kimber Hampton was born to Steven and Alyssa. Almost immediately, she was taken to the NICU. She had respiratory distress, a life-threatening lung condition that prevents enough oxygen from getting to the lungs and into the blood. Kimber was placed on a CPAP machine to help her breath. Shortly after, it was discovered she had a pneumothorax; a hole in her right lung. She was intubated, and taken by Flight for Life to Children’s Hospital Colorado where she spent the next 18 days fighting for her life. She was intubated for 14 days and had a total of 5 chest tubes, amongst many other health issues. Since then, she has been in and out of the hospital with various health scares and procedures (more info. below), and has gone through more in her first five months of life than some of us have in our lifetime!

Because of Kimber’s condition, Alyssa is unable to go back to work, and they have lost that much needed income,  and all the expenses are mounting that aren't covered by insurance (for instance, every swallow test is $1900 and insurance only covers $700, so it’s $1200 for the family each time). Along with the thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket medical expenses, there are other costs such as Kimber’s supplies as well as gas, tolls, hotel stays, and overall loss of income to help pay for household expenses. All of this – along with the constant worry about their precious baby girl – is taking its toll on Steven and Alyssa. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated.

More background on Kimber’s on-going health condition: After spending 18 days at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Kimber went home on only oxygen and a couple of weeks later, she was on her way to being cleared. But then in December, they were referred to a pulmonologist at Colorado Children’s due to Kimber’s noisy breathing and their concern about Bronchomalacia or Tracheomalacia, also known as floppy airways. At her appt. in Colorado it was discovered Kimber has an omega shaped larynx which may cause some difficulties if she were to be sick. The doctor scheduled her for a swallow study on Feb. 2nd, so they went back to Colorado, and sadly Kimber failed her test that day.  She was silently aspirating, meaning the milk was going to her lungs, but she didn’t cough or show any sign of choking.

Kimber was admitted and they placed her with a feeding tube. Shortly after, she went home and was doing okay. But then on Feb. 26, she was diagnosed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and admitted again, this time in Cheyenne. RSV is a virus with cold-like symptoms, but can be more serious in young babies, especially those in certain high-risk groups. Kimber spent six more days in the hospital and is now home. The family doesn’t know what the next several months look like and anything we can do to help relieve their stress will surely be a blessing.

The first hospital bill for Kimber was $268,000, fortunately insurance paid for most of that. However they had to pay $2400 for NICU care, $800 for Ultra Sound. The RSV hospital stay hasn't been fully billed yet, but they just received a $2200 bill for Home Health visits and the Childrens Clinic visit.  The Home Health visits are a recurring weekly expense of $150. They also incur a monthly expense of $200 for supplies related to her care, such as feeding tubes, feeding pump, bags for the feeding pump, tape and formula.  Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
