Halo's Eye Surgery

Halo was donated to Days End Farm Horse Rescue in 2005, and for nine years was a valuable addition to their Program Horse team until her recent retirement. During her tenure at Days End Farm, our family fostered her for three years. In April of 2014, Halo came to live with our family as part of the rescue’s SOS program.

Early in 2014, Halo was diagnosed with Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) in both eyes and was retired. In mid June we noticed that Halo’s left eye appeared inflamed. We called our veterinarian and started a more aggressive treatment for her ERU. When she did not respond, and appeared to be in some discomfort, we scheduled an exam. Our veterinarian and an equine ophthalmologist diagnosed Halo with a Squamous Cell Carcinoma in her left eye in addition to her ERU. She was also found to have Glaucoma in both eyes. In consultation with the veterinarians, we have decided the best outcome for Halo is enucleation and to focus on maintaining her vision and comfort in her right eye as long as possible.

We are raising money for Halo’s upcoming surgery and care.
