HI Capacity

In the past couple months, HI Capacity, http://hicapacity.org, has been steam rolling along in attempts to find and unite the \'makers\' and \'creators\' on island.  We've been holding community nights, giving technical talks, working on community projects, and entering global programming competitions.
However, our ultimate goal is to create a self-sustaining Makerspace in Honolulu funded primarily through it's members.  Recently, there\'s a co-working movement that\'s been happening  on island with the advent of such businesses such as The Box Jelly (http://theboxjelly.com), HI Green House (http://www.higreenhouse.com/), and R&D from InterIslandTerminal (http://www.indiegogo.com/interisland-terminal).  However, while I love the co-working movement, I think our Makerspace is unique to the islands because we\'ve reached out and have really connected the technical talent on island.
As a makerspace, our goal is to share our creative talents and ideas in both physical and non-physical aspects in a place where we feel comfortable. Whether it\'s creating a tweeting robot, building a web app that displays real time tidal statistics, or just learning from people who are doing these projects, we want to provide a great social setting for all members.
This is where we need your help. We need to raise money to start the space. At the moment, we have a lot of inactive members but we need to find out who\'s willing to participate and help fund the space. Our goal is $10,000 in startup costs with $5,000 coming from members and another $5,000 from a crowd-sourced funding project. This will allow us to have at least three months of assets to pay bills and acquire equipment. I know this seems daunting but I\'m absolutely sure we can raise this money.
Many of the members whose primary interests include electronics or hardware are looking to finally have a workshop. The workshop will include benches and tools for projects. It will have a place to store projects that are just too large for your apartment. At HI Capacity, you will be available to show off your cool new hack or great design.
It originally said $10,000 but it did not account for the funding already contributed. So, I've reduced the total to $8,500 and I will reduce it when I get outside funding. Click on the link to donate!

Our goal is $10,000 but we can start a minimum space at $5,000. Here are some examples of the funding levels:

$5,000 "“ Start moving into space with minimum equipment and basic furniture

$6,000 "“ Buy small tools and storage for the space

$7,000 "“ Buy projector for presentations and more furniture

$8,000 "“ Extra breathing for bills or more equipment :-)

$9,000 "“ Computer monitors and a couple of desks for programming hardware and software

$10,000 "“ Buy refrigerator/espresso machine for use by members (Caffeine, yay!)

You can also donate in other ways. Email [email redacted] for more ways to donate.
