Hi there! My name is Tiffany Low and I live in New York City.
I saw something on Facebook a while ago that a mother and daughter put together a small "goodie bag" for those without homes. Personally, I've been wanting to focus on aiding those who need our help, especially with the temperature dropping in the city. Hundreds of homeless people die every year during the harsh NY winter. Statistics report that at least 212 homeless people died in the 212, last year (http://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2016/03/at-least-212-homeless-people-died-in-fy-2015-report-shows-032657).
Let's reduce this number, together.
Who wants to join me in putting together goodie bags/care packages to help those in need around New York City? The goodie bag doesn't cost us much time or money, just the essentials that would really help those in need:
- 1 pair of socks
- 1 pair of gloves
- 1 muesli bar (for energy)
- 1 sandwich (everyone needs carbs)
- 1 bottle of water
- 1 small note of encouragement
Even if you don't live in NY but would like to help, you can contribute by making a donation here. 100% of the money raised will go towards purchasing these supplies to be given to the homeless. The total cost of each goodie bag will be approximately $5 each - less than the price of your daily coffee and warm breakfast pastry that you barely think about 5 minutes after consumption, but this same $5 will be beneficial to those who need it the most. I've started with a small aim to raise $1,000 - this will help at least 200 homeless people, to start. Hoping we can raise more to help more people! I will personally contribute $200 of my own money to this fundraiser and I hope you will find it in your hearts to donate what you can.
A little goes a long way. Pay it forward, so everyone can enjoy the upcoming holidays. It may not be a lot, but this small act of kindness will mean a lot to those in need.
