Haitian Dominican Cultural Exchange

Donation protected
Hello , my name is Jean-Paul. I am the International Relations Coordinator for Dance To Save Lives and an advocate for Haitian founded and run Grassroots Organizations. I am asking for your help to raise $10,000 USD to fund Haiti Dans Co’s tour to the Dominican Republic this April.

Dance To Save Lives, the Joan Rose Foundation, Ballet Folklorico Nacional, Alina Abreu Dance Conservatory and Hispadanco will be collaborating to create a  cultural exchange of dance. On April 10th to April 17th, 2017, Dance To Save Lives’ resident company Haiti Dans Co will be presenting the works of Dieufel Lamisere in Casa Teatro. Six members of the Joan Rose Foundation (JRF) community work with Haiti Dans Co as apprentices, and the JRF has offered a Fiscal Sponsorship to Dance to Save Lives for this project. All Donations will be tax deductible thanks to the generosity of their sponsorship.

Haiti Dans Co is the resident company of Dance To Save Lives and is comprised mostly of its alumni. Dance To Save Lives is a dance studio based in the city of Jacmel, Haiti, that provides orphans and homeless teenagers with the necessary resources to keep them off the streets.

When the students reach the caliber of a professional dance artist we offer them opportunity through Haiti Dans Co. These dancers are also the teachers of the Dance To Save Lives open classes. They will gain experience by touring as performers across the country of Haiti to the Dominican Republic. Opportunities like these are not only an investment in the emerging generation of young Haitian artists, but it is also an investment in the community of Jacmel. It allows the dancers to further their knowledge and experiences. In addition to performances, the company will also be taking classes and learning from established instructors in the community through class opportunities at Alina Abreu Dance Conservatory. This will make them a greater resource for the dance community of Jacmel.

The Joan Rose Foundation is an American Non-For-Profit organization that has been collaborating with a community of Haitian - Dominican refugees. Since 2010, this organization has set out to accomplish a modest goal: to improve the lives of vulnerable children and their families.

It is through these means that these organizations began to build a bridge between the Dance To Saves Lives community and the Haitian - Dominican refugees. Our collective communal goal is to provide all Haitian youth with communities rooted in their safety, empowerment of identity, and opportunity. The Joan Rose Foundation provides transportation to the youth of this community to attend classes at Dance to Save Lives and pays the instructors a monthly stipend. We are using dance to create sanctuaries in our communities. By bringing communities of Haitians together through dance practices, we can heal the past wounds of society induced otherism and reunite as a human race. Six of the students from the community that the Joan Rose Foundation works with will be returning to Dominican Republic for the first time as apprentices with Haiti Dans Co’s tour.

Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely,
Jean-Paul Weaver
