Hello! My name is Kayla Bonilla and I am asking for your support. I have the opportunity to join GLA (Global Leadership Adventures) on a life changing, mission trip to Guatemala. I will have the opportunity to spend 14 days volunteering at a local school, refurbishing and building classrooms and working with the Maya children. The school is unique, it is run by Maya
teachers and it actively promotes indigenous language and culture. I will experience and interact with the children, art, artifacts, landscape, and inspiring young minds of Guatemala in this immersive program.
I have the chance to fuse my love for children, passion for community service and desire to travel the world. It is a dream that I humbly ask for you to support.
More often than not my generation takes for granted the world we live in, the lack of culture, the overuse of technololgy; Although this trip is essentially for me to help the Children of the Maya, for me it is so much more and I look foward to this expierence and what i will bring back home to share. I hope to learn about the immmigration issues that the youth face today and how the Mayans’ preserve their culture in our rapidly growing world today.
For me this trip is the begining of a life long journey/dream of mine, to travel the word, help children, and bring back what I learn and share it with my peers here.
This will also be used as part of my "Personal Project", a requirement for graduation at City Honors School where i curently attend as a 9th grader.
In total, the trip will cost around $5000. This includes the total cost of the trip, airfare, supplies, etc. So once again, I will greatly appreciate anything that you can do, and if you have any questions at all please feel free to ask me.
