<div><strong>Update 5/14/26</strong>
</div>
<div>Thank you for continuing to support families who have been affected by Operation Metro Surge. While much of the activity has subsided, we are still hearing reports of neighbors being taken off the streets and we do not know what the future plans are in the Twin Cities for this administration. The economic impacts will be felt for months and years to come. We still receive requests on a regular basis from neighbors whose primary breadwinner has been detained or deported, from neighbors who are still fearful to leave their house, from neighbors who lost their job due to the restaurant they worked at closing because they did not bring in enough business.

<div>While the attention on Minneapolis has come and gone in the national media, neighbors are still hurting and doing their best to provide for their families. The safety net that our community needs has not yet been woven, but we all step up with pieces of thread to build it. Our Neighbor Relief Fund is just one and we are grateful to be able to provide that support while also hoping for a future in which we do not need to exist.

<div>We have now helped over 240 families and have distributed more than $370,000. We anticipate needing at least an additional $40,000 to support families in covering their rent in June.

<div>Thank you for the continued and ever-expanding support of the Greater Longfellow Neighbor Relief Fund! We are so grateful for the support from the Twin Cities and beyond as we work to ensure that our neighbors can stay in their homes.

<div>As the Star Tribune recently reported regarding who mutual aid groups are supporting - “the families they’re helping now have had one or more members detained, then moved out of state or deported out of the country. Those absences mean fewer paychecks to cover rent and other expenses, creating a secondary crisis in which families can’t leave but can’t afford to stay.” This rings true with the requests we are seeing and fulfilling.

<div>We are still receiving, on average, between two to three requests for aid every day from neighbors who need support. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have been able to fulfill most of these requests, though not always within the time frame needed, which can create a precarious situation for neighbors and the cusp of eviction. We anticipate the need for rent relief to continue as the long-term effects of Operation Metro Surge will be felt for months and years to come.

<div><strong>Update (3/17/26)</strong>
</div>
<div>We continue to be amazed by the support of the more than 1,400 donors who have contributed to this Fund and helped raise $228,000. While we have helped just over 150 families, the need is still great and so we are increasing our goal to $325,000 which would give us enough funds to fulfill our current wait list of over 50 families that continues to grow.

<div>Thank you for standing with Minnesota immigrants. The social safety nets that we need to ensure that our neighbors stay housed are thin and worn-out and the threat of eviction looms large over many neighbors in our community. We are incredibly disheartened by the veto of a sixty-day eviction moratorium by the Mayor of Minneapolis. The replacement suggestion of $1,000,000 in funding will not be enough to strengthen that safety net and we are deeply concerned about the looming housing crisis that residents of our city will face.

<div><strong>Launch Story (2/9/26)</strong>

<div>We are a group of neighbors from the Greater Longfellow neighborhoods working to provide direct financial support to meet the urgent needs of families across our neighborhood and the surrounding metro region. We aim to support families who are in crisis as a result of the current occupation by federal immigration enforcement agents and their indiscriminate activities in Minnesota.

<div><strong>Please donate to help keep families in their homes this winter by directly supporting their living expenses.</strong> Many individuals have not been able to work because it has become unsafe for them to leave their homes for fear of being detained. Others, such as small business owners, have lost their livelihood due to their main clientele being fearful to come out to their businesses.

<div>For the sake of privacy and safety, those receiving funds must remain anonymous. We take care of each other, we keep each other safe, and we do so with love at the forefront. Though we may not know each individual directly, we believe that any neighbor in need, is our neighbor. We believe in building community as we do this work.

</div>
<div>Families and other vulnerable neighbors are identified through trusted community networks. To protect families, we do not publicly share identifying details. Those in need can also contact us through the contact button at the bottom of this page. Please do not include sensitive information like full name, address or phone number.

<div><em>What will funds be used for?</em>
</div>
<div>Funds are meant to be used to cover living expenses for those in need in Longfellow and throughout the region. This can include rent or mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, medical bills, legal bills and everyday necessities. Receipts and proof of dispersal of funds can be requested once payments have been made or funds are sent directly to families. Again, for the sake of safety and privacy, names and identifying information will be omitted.

<div><em>How will families receive funds?</em>
</div>
<div>Those in need can submit a request through our campaign's contact form or connect with community members in the Greater Longfellow neighborhoods. A community member will reach out and connect with applicants about their needs. Once the request is approved, funds will be withdrawn to a community member's bank account. Applicants can choose to receive funds in cash (delivered by the community member) or through some electronic transfer methods.

<div>Beneficiaries are vouched for by community members who know them personally or referred through existing support networks.

<div>Funds are intended for ongoing financial relief and will roll over month to month. In the event that financial relief is no longer a pressing need, we will redirect remaining funds toward established organizations and support efforts in the community doing the same work in a long-term, non-emergent manner. GoFundMe donors will be informed of any changes.
