While much of our academic focus aims at closing the achievement gap, our schedule and resources often fall short of offering character-building and experiential learning. Unfortunately, off-campus opportunities are a privilege for urban students, but elsewhere, are considered a right.
We want to exceed the limits of the classroom and invigorate the 5 senses by taking a pre-selected group of 15 adventurous students into their first camping experience at a nearby National Recreation Area. Last year's trip was a huge success, with 13 students reporting a joyous, cell phone-free, discomfort-conquering experience worth repeating! 2018 Trip Photos!
While our programming partner, the Appalachian Mountain Club, provides us with discounted rates, the per student costs exceed the amount that our means allow. We're asking you to support our students in shouldering some of the tuition. We believe that if we are able to raise $2200, all of our students will be able to attend without hardship.
Thanks for your support and hearing our story! More news to come after we return from the backcountry!
