Gordon Boudreau Scholarship Fund

My Dad, Gordon Boudreau, grew up on a farm, and his Dad ran a shop that sold agricultural tools and machinery. As a little boy he supposed that his destiny would be working the farm or selling farm equipment like his father, but the parish priest had a different idea. He told Gordon’s father, “The boy must go to college.” This family friend recognized a superior intellect and he could foresee the contributions that young Gordon could make, given the chance at higher education.
Today Gordon is in his late 80s, and has spent a lifetime educating young people and inspiring them with his love for literature and high ideals. He and his wife Grace raised a brood of seven who share that love for learning and the creative play of ideas.
Gordon is now retired after thirty years as a professor of literature at LeMoyne College, a Jesuit institution in Syracuse, NY. Although he no longer visits the classroom, his intellect is still acute and he’s as keen as ever to mentor young minds. Our desire is to translate this into action by creating the Boudreau Family Fund, responsible for awarding the Gordon Boudreau Scholarship. This scholarship will be specific to the English Department at LeMoyne College. While all the details are not yet ironed out, it is our intention to fund a 10 year pledge, with contributions sufficient to pay out the scholarship in the short term, and then pay into an endowment fund that would sustain the scholarship going forward. Dr. Boudreau will be actively involved in planning and setting up this scholarship.
So I’m starting this GoFundMe campaign to supplement a family donation that will be the main source of funding for the scholarship. All monies raised here, minus the minimal GoFundMe fee, will go directly to the Gordon Boudreau Scholarship fund.
There will always be girls and boys who, like young Gordon, “must go to college,” and it’s our hope that this fund will help make that financially possible. It will be a great comfort to my Dad and the rest of the family to see his legacy established in such an appropriate way. We're deeply grateful for your contributions.
