The word cancer is devastating to anyone whether a man or a woman. But when it's your child, a child in your family, one you love or even a child you hear of in the community that receives the news of a life-threatening or even terminal illness of pediatric cancer Life Changes immediately, forever, for that child and their family, and a place in our heart breaks for them.
Scientists are aggressively trying to find cures for cancers but at this time there are no cures only treatment, surgeries and protocols for kids. Right now they're over 500,000 Kids In America living with cancer. In 2017 there will be at least 20,000 new cases and tragically thousands won't survive.
We've all seen the videos of beautiful ball children in hospital gowns with their IV poles singing to an inspirational song about being brave, living life to the fullest, being resilient during the fight of their lives. Our tears fall as we cry for them while our Spirits are lifted. Thanking God that we can go back to our healthy life and family.
The reality is these kids don't want to be so brave, they simply want to be healthy have fun and Adventures. The reality is after the song ends and bit of fun, they are planning their next surgery or taking their dose of chemo radiation or scans.
We are supposed to fix our children and make them better, but we feel helpless to see these precious children live with horrible illnesses.
Physical disabilities are common due to cancer even amputations, and a life of uncertainty.
My apologies for being blunt but this is the truth for kids with cancer. As I write this letter a local little girl is recovering from surgery. At the end of 2016 she had a leg removed and now the cancer is back in her lungs. Yesterday they removed parts of her lungs. Golden Key Camp and Park will be for her and many many other kids just like her.
Cancer robs children of their childhood but we are determined to give them back what cancer has stolen!
The Golden Key is to find a problem and do something to make it better. Childhood Cancer is a problem that is very hard to talk about but we are determined to find people that are willing to help in big or small ways.
Most of the time after a child has been diagnosed with cancer they already have a large range of challenges, disabilities, weaknesses, loss of Limbs, Vision or hearing impairment, often the need of a wheelchair, or assistance to daily tasks. These kids are Fighters,strong, Brave and Overcomers but honestly they just want to be a kid. To be able to go to a park, ride a bike, play, Jump, climb, swing, and free to have Adventures.
Over the next twelve months I'll be traveling Michigan to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer and asking for help to create a park!
The Golden Key Camp and Park will be no cost for families to visit and will be fully handicapped accessible with a 1-mile sensory Trail featuring dozens and dozens of play areas along the entire length of the trail thoughtfully designed to encourage exercise Adventures, Independence, freedom of play. In addition to the trail families can participate in the Arts and Crafts buildings, indoor gym for all seasons and weather, fish in the ponds, help in the Petting Farm, horseback riding, or simply enjoy a meal in our dining hall!
All at no cost for our guests.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month so we have a very special exciting event going to raise awareness of Childhood cancer!!
Sept 27 -Oct 5 2017 we will be riding our bikes in our 3rd annual Shore to Shore bicycle ride 350 miles across the state of Michigan to raise awareness of Childhood Cancer, We are asking for pledges. Also in Sept is our 12 hour LIVE TELETHON. join the views on Facebook under the wall of Lisa Keck Kujawa to see talented people come together to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer at Mallies in Southgate, Mi during a variety show 11am to 11pm on Sept 16 ! During the telethon we will be live asking for people to call in with their pledges and donations!
Other fundraising events we are excited to announce,
In December is our POLAR ROLL 5k, pledge a participant or Help raise funds by biking walking or running in this 5k,
February we have a very formal black tie event called The Great Gatsby Golden Key fundraiser it is a Roaring Twenties Gala,
March is our "SPRING ROLL 5K" which is also a fundraiser,
May is when we do our annual "SOUP AND A DOLLAR" campaign it's a food collection for the homeless and we collect dollars for the Golden Key camp.
Celebrate Christmas with us in July with special Christmas Party.
Please join in the mission to help these kids by creating a Michigan based incredible park where these families can visit for a day or a week and LEAVE CANCER AT THE CURB!
We have found an old Scout camp that has some incredible history dating back to 1910, that we would love to restore and bring back to life and call the GOLDEN KEY CAMP AND PARK, but we still are in need of raising funds to purchase land to make this dream a reality. there are many Charities and needs in the world and every one is important. Our hearts are for the children. To see a child hurting and not be able to get them, it's heartbreaking. But until theres a cure there will be GOLDEN KEY CAMP!!
we can offer them a chance to climb a tree, ride a horse, play on playgrounds,... instead of watching other children have fun they will be able to have fun too!!
