This is for Sbu.
1st Annual Goal 4 Hope event.
The GOALS are to:
1. Ride the Blueridge Parkway, 469.1 miles, October 18-26, 2013.
2. Purchase a college education for Sbu.
3. Create an opportunity for Sbu to break out of Kyayelitsha
My HOPE is that by achieving my goal, I can instill a greater sense of hope in Sbu.
In 2012 my business partner Mack Kitchel, Liz Bangs and I lead a group of 11 high school students traveled to Cape Town, South Africa through the Globalx organization. On this trip we worked through SouthPoint Community Church, and we also partnered with Baphumele.
This was my first international missions opportunity, and it was eye opening. On that trip I was afforded the opportunity to meet a young man by the name of Sbu.
Sbu is a young man, that is like most of us, full us hopes, and dreams, although his environment is different than what is experienced throughout Atlanta and most of the United States. Sbu has had a tough life, but what amazed me is his hope, and how he is a dreamer!!!
Subsequently, in 2013 I traveled back to South Africa with Globalx, and was eager to learn of how Sbu has changed!!!
In 2013, upon seeing Sbu, I could see that he had started to turn the corner and that a glimmer of hope was beginning to burn in his eyes.
In order for Sbu to continue to have hope, and to eventually have an opportunity to move out of the poverty and crime that he faces in Khayelitsha, he needs to continue to pursue his education.
In Khayelitsha, most teenagers must daily determine whether or not they will pursue an education, or gangs and other illicit behavior.
Sbu would like to go to college to pursue his goal of becoming a chef. With no family to help, and few ministries that serve young people that are his age (18), I have decided to help, and I now call on you.
By achieving our goal, we aim to provide hope to Sbu with the following.
1. Continued hope
2. An college education
3. An opportunity to break out of Kyayelitsha
