#GoTeamFomai Project

In November of 2014, my dear husband, Coach Will Foma’i (or others know him as Yogi or Junior), was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which was definitely a game changer in our lives.  Lung Cancer is the second most common cancer in the United states and can even affect non-smokers like Will. We don’t know why he has this disease, but we do know this - We are going to fight! Our game plan is to tackle this disease with the best treatment possible, and with the love, support and prayers from our family, dear friends and kind supports like yourselves.

Will's journey so far has included a week long stay in the hospital, many doctor visits, various tests including Xrays, MRI, CT scan, blood draws and much more.  In addition to cancer, he is also diabetic which comes with it's own list of challenges.  However, Will has been a champ through it all and is encouraged by all the support he's received so far.

In January, Will and I traveled to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan, Georgia (an outstanding facility).  While there he underwent another series of testing and got a second opinion and information on different treatment options.  We met some amazing  cancer patients in various stages of treatment.  Hearing their stories, their struggles and their little victories was so inspiring.  We know we are not alone!

As of right now Will is continuing treatment here in Alaska. He has started the first round of chemotherapy and thankfully, the side effects have been manageable.  He does get fatigued and has occasional chest pains, and also has occasional fluid buildup around his lungs, but he is such a fighter, getting through the pain. 

We just want to thank everyone for their encouraging and kind words of support, prayers and offers of help.  All of it is making a difference in helping Will to stay positive and continue to tackle this disease!
