April's Recovery Fund

Hello Team April!

This page has been set up in honor of our dear friend April Casey, who suffered an ischemic stroke in March - basically, a blood clot traveled to her brain and paralyzed her right side. We got her to the hospital very quickly, and after several days in the ER and ICU, the doctors got her stabilized and the immediate danger passed. She got put in a regular hospital room for a week, and then spent two weeks at the rehab therapy facility. She is now back home and in the recovery stage - she's been making great progress, including walking just fine again, but it will take several months before she has full use of her right hand again and her speech and memory are back to normal.

Unfortunately, this means she can no longer perform her job, which involved working in a fuel cell lab and using her very fine motor skills (she made the sensors inside breathalyzers and was known for her delicate touch with tweezers, picking up wires that were half the width of a human hair). So on top of getting hit with a bunch of hospital bills, she won't have an income over the next several months until she is fully recovered and then able to find a new job. It's a classic case of what doctors call double-whammitis.

In the meantime, we're banding together to support her recovery and get her through this ordeal. She's thankful for any amount you can offer, and all donations are going directly into a trust fund that's been set up to meet her living needs and medical expenses. We're grateful she has such an amazing group of friends, and we're so glad you're on Team April!
