Go Kidneys Go!

Donation protected
Hi Friends! Some of you have been asking how you can help. This campaign was set up for me by coworkers after I first became ill. I confess I haven't really sent the link out before because it always seems awkward to ask for help, but life has a way of humbling us doesn't it?
I am happy to report that I have been added to the Kidney Transplant list at Vanderbilt and that a friend is being assessed to see if she is a good match for me.
As a result of my illness and dialysis, the medical and other bills have been stacking up and have grown into at least $50,000 in debt. The bright side is I don't receive any of those annoying "pre-approved" junk letters from credit companies anymore (ha ha). Unfortunately, the transplant will add another $20,000 minimum after insurance and I will have to take anti-rejection medication everyday for the rest of my life. Vandy told us the medicine alone is $5,000 a month before insurance. I want to thank you for all your prayers, encouragement and other means of support during these past 2.5 years. If you can help me pay down some of this debt and help provide for some of my expenses before my transplant it will really take some worry off my mind. After the transplant I will likely have a Kidney Foundation account to help with expenses related to medicine and aftercare.

Here is some of the history from the original 2016 campaign:

One of our instructors in the Digital Filmmaking and Video Production Department, Leigh Harrington, became in sick Spring 2015. At that time, doctors thought she had a sinus infection. This became more serious and would not go away. Leigh was then hospitalized for two weeks. During this time she was diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). This disease can cause the narrowing of blood vessels to the point of closing off the vessel entirely. This can cause organs to become damaged from loss of oxygen and nutrients that were being supplied by the blood.

This disease has now affected Leigh’s kidneys and she requires dialysis twice each week.

Leigh is also scheduled to visit the Cleveland Clinic in December to see a specialist about her disease.

Between the two week hospital stay last spring and all the medicines and other medical bills (and the visit to the Cleveland Clinic in December), Leigh’s savings have been depleted. We would like to help Leigh with these expenses.

Anything you can give will be appreciated.
