HBCU Textbook Fund #GoFindYouHBCU

Donation protected
This October, GoFindYou, GoFundMe’s platform that celebrates and funds Black joy, is heading back to school and offering HBCU students across the country support for textbooks. The nonprofit, HBCU Scholarship Ride, will be distributing $500 textbook reimbursements, aiming for up to 150 students initially, with the goal of furthering support through ongoing donations.

To be considered for a $500 reimbursement, follow these steps:

1. Launch your own GoFundMe fundraiser for education expenses with the title “HBCU Textbook Fund - Your Name” and include our hashtag #GoFindYouHBCU in the fundraiser description.

2. Then, submit your fundraiser link, which should have received a minimum of (3) donations, and upload proof of enrollment in an HBCU via THIS FORM.

Proof can include, but is not limited to, student ID cards, class schedules, and/or campus bookstore receipts. Reimbursements will be issued in the order received as Amazon gift cards, pending all requirements have been met.

The HBCU Textbook Fund is another program through GoFundMe’s GoFindYou platform, which aims to celebrate and fund Black joy. The GoFindYou platform is a space for inspiration, tips, and community.

More about Hassan’s journey below:

As a fourth generation native of Newark, I have always been socially active in the community. Having attended Howard University in the 90's, I experienced the value that an HBCU offers young black minds. Due to unforeseen financial circumstances I had to return to Newark to help support my family.

I started the HBCU Bike Ride in 2020 out of my passion for giving Black students the opportunity to attend an HBCU. I believe that when the community rallies behind our youth and raises money for their education, we will be able to cultivate community and support the HBCUs.

We organized our first bike ride in August and shared our mission to raise money for students in Newark with friends and family. All the money raised from the rides supports students attending a Historically Black College or University. The ride is held annually and continues to grow each year.

“If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far, go together” - African Proverb
To further my passion for and mission to support our HBCUs, I’ve worked with GoFundMe to launch the HBCU Textbook Fund.
