Carrie's Update: Thursday, February 8

Three days ago Carrie got the fantastic news she is IN REMISSION!

Now onto the hard work of 17 weeks of intense chemo treatments.... 4 months of consolidation treatments that start with  a 6 day hospital stay with three weeks home to recover.

Today she started Round 1, 6 doses today and a view out the window of her room at the Markey Cancer Center of the University of Kentucky.

We are grateful for those who have helped so far and appreciate those who will in the future, this 17 weeks creates more challenges for Carrie and her family, this phase will end almost 6 months without income and without Carrie at home for her sweet family. We are thankful for your prayers and will post updates as we support Carrie and Joe.

Carrie's Story: On Tuesday, our friend and co-worker Carrie Esenbock came into the ER with abnormal lab results, probably thinking "I am wasting everyone's time, I am NOT an emergency".  Within 72 hours she now has a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and chemotherapy starting within hours.

AML is a form of leukemia that requires intense treatment, in and out of the hospital. Carrie has a 4-6 month treatment plan, with a first goal of remission followed by hopefully a cure.  Please help us support Carrie and her sweet family. Her daughters, her son, and her husband Joe B. need her home!

If you work at UK Healthcare and cannot put a face with her name, picture a tiny gal with long blonde hair who spent all last year as pregnant as she is tall, pushing the CXR machine through the ED halls or covered in lead during a trauma alert!  Please help Carrie, Joe B. and their family during these long months full of doctors bills, treatments, and weeks without work for both of them.  We are so thankful Carrie is getting treatment at UK, but the road ahead of her is a long one.  AML is a challenging diagnosis, and they need all of our help to get through this.

If you cannot donate your money, please let me know if you can help some other way. The holidays are around the corner, so please find some Santa spirit early and make your donation here. With chemo starting tonight, Carrie's situation could not be more urgent. Please help if you can.
