A Final Resting Place for My Mom
For more than 20 years, my mom, Gloria Fine, battled vascular dementia. Worse than Alzheimer’s, this disease slowly robbed her of her joy, dignity and life.
Six years ago, after the sudden death of my stepfather, Robert Fine, we relocated her back to NYC and I became my mom’s main caregiver. We were able to find good facilities for her, but as the rest of the family lives in other states, I devoted myself to visiting and caring for her regularly.
This was both a struggle and a privilege. I love her more than words can express and seeing her drift away for the last 6 years was deeply painful.
Gloria was a loving mother, devoted wife and stepmother to myself, Robert, and my brothers and sisters Ronni Herb, Jackie Finch, Peter Fine and Michael Fine. She was an artist who loved to paint and draw, and a late-in-life athlete who ran and race-walked alongside Robert. She loved music and had a rich voice. She was always looking for ways to help the ones she loved.
Very soon after Robert died, while we were making arrangements to move my mom back to NYC, I lost my job. In the six years since, I’ve been unable to find work in my field. I am seeking donations to raise enough money to purchase a cemetery niche for her, where she can rest forever and where her loved ones can visit. It’s hard for me to ask for help, but our family has faced several severe tragedies and health emergencies over the last few years and resources all around are stretched. I hope that with your help, I can secure a place for her and begin to move forward knowing I have done my best.
Thank you for whatever help you’re able to offer.
